With Pride & Grief: Honoring Jewish American Heritage Month

Dear Friend,
This Memorial Day Weekend, during Jewish American Heritage Month, words cannot begin to express the deep sorrow I feel as we honor the memory of two Israeli staffers brutally murdered on the streets of our Nation’s Capital—a stark and painful reminder of the unchecked terrorism now taking root on American soil.

I was in DC last weekend for a simcha - what if this were my niece or nephew - what if this were yours? In moments like these, when language falters, I turn to the voices of artists who help us process the unthinkable. One of those voices is musician and poet Peter Himmelman. His Morning Musing gives shape to the grief, anger and resolve that so many of us are carrying in our hearts.

True humanism is not a costume one wears at a protest. It is not a slogan scrawled on a placard, or a chant shouted in a drum line. It is a discipline of conscience—a willingness to look squarely at suffering, no matter who endures it, and to refuse the seductive logic of wanton bloodshed masquerading as justice.

For Peter’s complete Morning Musing  click here. Let it ground you, move you and remind you of the power of unity and truth.

May Sarah and Yaron's lives be for a blessing.

At the same time, we welcome home U.S.-Israeli hostage Edan Alexander, who has finally reunited with his family in Israel after being held captive in Gaza since 2023. His release brings a measure of relief—but we must not forget that the bodies of four other American citizens are still being held.

Let us remember. Let us act. And let us continue to dream of a world where peace, safety and justice are not privileges—but rights for all.

I am reflecting with gratitude, 12 weeks after our Nationwide release.

If you had told me we'd have 450 people lining 58th Street to enter The Paris Theatre in NYC for UnBroken over Easter Weekend, I would have laughed. And if you’d said that just 12 weeks later, UnBroken would break into the Top 10 movies in the U.S. on Netflix—ranking #5 on Yom HaShoah—I would have asked what you were smoking, drinking or doing to bend reality.

But here we are. It did happen.

Revisiting this interview and reflecting on how far we've come in such a short time fills me with deep humility and a renewed belief that dreams do come true.

If you have a moment to listen, please hold humanity in your heart. Let’s keep dreaming—together—of a better today and tomorrow, where we can all walk the streets in safety.

Grateful for this  Deepest Dream interview with host @Greg Srisavasdi

FOMO FOR BIFF!

I hope you all know how deeply I treasure every festival that has supported UnBroken’s journey. One festival that holds a special place in my heart for countless reasons, not the least of which was winning the Audience Choice Award (!!!) is the Berkshire International Film Festival (BIFF).

I got lucky enough to stand in the middle of this merry throng of artists last year.  I learned so much at The Summit and hope to one day return as a filmmaker, audience member, judge, panelist... doesn't matter - just wanna go back!

BIFF kicks off with its incredible Filmmaker Summit starting this Tuesday, followed by the exciting Opening Night festivities on Thursday. Be sure to check out their website and show some love to Anne and Kelley at BIFF — they truly make magic happen.
