Founded to counter antisemitism and intolerance through the arts, WFAF supports projects that inspire empathy, inclusivity and moral courage. The Weber Family Arts Foundation (WFAF) is a space where stories of courage, resilience and compassion come to life through the arts. Founded in March 2023, WFAF was created to challenge antisemitism, prejudice and intolerance by supporting artists who use their creative voices to inspire empathy and positive change.
We believe that art is more than expression—it’s a catalyst for transformation. Through dance, film, music, theatre, visual arts and writing, we champion projects that foster understanding and nurture hope. WFAF uplifts work that centers on humanity, selflessness and the power of compassion in the face of adversity.
WFAF’s first project is the critically acclaimed documentary film UnBroken, directed, produced and written by Beth Lane, granddaughter of Alexander and Lina Weber. UnBroken honors all the upstanders and righteous gentiles who helped them survive the Holocaust. Our mission is to amplify stories of resilience and compassion that build bridges and communities.
Our story begins with the Weber family. Although Lina Banda Weber was murdered at Auschwitz, her husband, Alexander, along with their seven children, survived the Holocaust thanks to the courage of ordinary people who chose to act with kindness and bravery. Today, their legacy lives on through their descendants and the mission of WFAF. The Foundation honors their story by supporting art that builds bridges, strengthens communities and reminds us of our shared humanity.
The film chronicles an extraordinary journey:
The daughter of a Holocaust survivor embarks on an international quest to uncover answers about the plight of her mother and her six siblings who, as mere children, escaped Nazi Germany relying solely on their own youthful bravado and the kindness of German strangers.
UnBroken tells the story of the seven Weber siblings who evaded certain capture and death following their mother’s incarceration and murder at Auschwitz. After being hidden in a laundry hut by a benevolent farmer, the children spent two years on their own in war-torn Germany.
Emboldened by their father’s mandate that they “always stay together,” the children used their own cunning and instincts to fight through hunger, loneliness, rape, bombings and fear. Their journey culminates with an escape to a new life in America.
UnBroken premiered on Netflix this past April, on Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah). Within 24 hours, it soared to the top 10 movies in the US, reaching #5. This milestone reflects the film’s powerful resonance and global impact.
“UnBroken is not a political film — it’s a spiritual confession. I made it to inspire hope, build bridges and ask audiences to feel more deeply, care more fiercely and stand up for one another.”
Our first two initiatives focus on bringing UnBroken to schools across the United States and expanding its reach globally. Through this, we will inspire hope, nurture empathy and ignite meaningful conversations about courage, resilience and standing up for one another.
We invite film festivals & societies, museums, schools, houses of worship and community organizations to partner with us in hosting screenings—both in-person and Netflix Watch Parties. These events offer a unique opportunity to:
Share a rarely told Holocaust survival story that resonates across generations
Encourage dialogue about historical and modern antisemitism and the importance of being an ally
Strengthen community awareness, cultural empathy and moral courage
Include live or virtual Q&A sessions with director Beth Lane
UnBroken is available for community screenings through Kinema. We are booking events nationwide and internationally.
